Progress at the Farm

Planning Permission for the Barn

This has been a long time in the coming, but we now have planning permission to use the barn for activities associated with the farm and importantly our ethics, it must be green! We will be using it for the flower and foliage farm and for workshops and talks. Plus, we will be hiring it out on a limited basis (still working that one out!)

We are so excited and pleased and it’s even been painted. Plus, we have chairs! This was amazing luck. St Francis Church in Ipswich was giving them away after purchasing new ones. As many know I don’t approve of incineration or landfill, so I was happy to help out and give them a new home. Its first ‘outing’ will be two talks: One on owls on the 31st of August and the second on Badgers on the 6th of October More on our events page.

Foliage & Flower Field Progress

Secondly, in spring a big deer fence went up in Leverets and within in we planted 1000 odd shrubs and trees for the foliage and flower farm. Another one that has taken much planning!

We were lucky enough to be awarded a grant from Essex County Council which helped pay for the work. The bottom half of the field contains trees which range from blossoming and berrying to those grown for bare colourful winter stems and evergreens. At the top end is the perennial area. The plants need time to establish but I am delighted to have progressed so far and really look forward to supply Essex florists with some fantastic foliage.

The goats however, just sit and watch, quite happy from the comfort of a wheelbarrow!
